About Our Church
Welcome to The Gathering Place Church, situated on Porterfield Hwy in Abingdon. Our journey began in 2009, gathering humbly in our Pastor’s basement. Shortly after, we secured a space on Porterfield Hwy, starting in a retail section and gradually expanding to encompass the entire building. God’s blessings drive our ongoing growth.
Within our doors, you’ll find a Sunday Worship Service, children’s classes, a nurturing nursery, and a vibrant youth group. Throughout the week, our space transforms into a hub of spiritual growth, hosting Bible studies, men’s and women’s groups, and more.
Beyond our walls, a dedicated motorcycle ministry serves our local area. We provide meals for the homeless and run a food pantry for Abingdon and the community. Our annual Coalition of Christian Bikers event unites East Coast ministries for fellowship and outreach. Our efforts include benefit rides, scholarship support to Recovery Soldiers, Christmas aid for families, spending time with the elderly, and contributions to local causes, all driven by a deep commitment to making a difference.
Throughout our growth, blessings remain constant, a testament to the guiding influence of Jesus Christ, propelling us to serve with purpose.
In the dawn of 2024, The Gathering Place Church is thrilled to announce its move to a new home at the East Entrance of Blue Mountain Therapy. This exciting transition reflects our continual growth and unwavering commitment to serving the community. As we expand into this spacious and welcoming space, we carry with us the blessings and guidance of Jesus Christ, propelling us into a new chapter of purposeful worship, fellowship, and community outreach. We look forward to the journey ahead, confident that our new location will be a hub of spiritual growth, a haven for fellowship, and a catalyst for positive change in the lives of those we touch.
Our Beliefs
The Bible
We believe the Bible to be the revealed Word of God, fully and verbally inspired of God. We believe the Scriptures to be the inerrant, infallible Word of God, as found within the 66 books from Genesis to Revelation. We believe that God not only inspired every word, but that He has preserved them through the ages.

God
We believe in one God; Who is eternal, self-existent, infinite, and immutable. We believe He has one nature, one essence, and one substance; yet manifests Himself to man in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ to be the one and only Saviour of mankind. We believe Jesus Christ to be eternally God and to possess all the attributes of Deity. We believe that Jesus Christ was virgin-born, that He was God incarnate, and that the purposes of the incarnation were to reveal God, to redeem men, and to rule over God’s kingdom.

The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit of God is a person who has personality and all the attributes of Deity. We believe the Holy Spirit was sent to regenerate, sanctify, seal, and fill all who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ.
Sin
We believe all men were born with an inherited sin nature received from our common ancestor, Adam. We believe that because of his nature, man is a sinner by choice, and he is totally incapable of reforming himself or ceasing from his sin by his own power.

Salvation
We believe the only hope of deliverance for man is a total change of mind concerning his sinful condition and inability to change it, and a turning to Jesus Christ as the only Saviour. We believe that only through the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ on the cross can a man be delivered from his sin.
